Check Those Ignition Parts

This is often the most familiar situation that you can come across: each and every time car owners find themselves confronted with a problem in their cars they pop open the hood, peer under it and pretend they know which engine part is this from the one over there. It is the component in your car responsible for creating the spark or charge that powers up the fuel-air mixture inside the cylinder of the car’s engine. Still, like a number of things in this world, the whole process is easier said than done. This is because precise timing has to come into it. The ignition system must ignite the mixture inside the cylinder or fuel-air reservoir at just the right instant—no more and no less. If the turning of the ignition system is off by even a hint of a millisecond, the spark will fail to ignite and the resulting vehicle performance will prove to be unsatisfactory. That is, if it runs. In most cases, where the timing of the spark is off, the vehicle refuses to run at all.

How does the ignition system work? Try to get your mind around the idea that it works like most systems do: through a series of connections. First, the ignition system releases a substantial volume of voltage. This is sent to the cylinders or more specifically, to the spark plugs contained inside these cylinders. This, of course, must happen when the piston is positioned at the top of its compression stroke. Why? For the purpose of eliciting the spark, that’s why. There is a gap at the tip of each spark plug. This is where the spot where the spark occurs. As to the probable voltage level that the spark plug can reach, studies show that it is between 20,000 volts and 50,000 volts or something a little higher than that. So a lower voltage count will most probably result into engine start-up failure or poor engine performance on the streets.
